Subject: [Nighthawk Lovers] trouble with my poor 650 nighthawk

hello.

i seem to be having a problem with my bike. last week i went to the market and
my bike was running fine. when i came out to go home, i put the key in and
nothing. no lights, no power to anything.
immediately i assumed it was the 30A fuse attached to the starter relay and
replaced it. no good.
then i checked the battery by bridging the terminals in the relay, the bike
cranked over fine so the battery is good. [ps i put the bike on a boost charger
when i got home and affirmed the battery is good.]
next i tried to power one of the coils directly from the battery to see if i
could at least get the engine to fire those cylinders, no luck with that.
i am assuming that something is grounding the coils because of this.
i have changed every fuse in the bike that i could find [the ones behind the
headlight even though they all seem to be for lights and guages and the 30A
next to the starter relay.
im left with assuming it is either something with the ignition switch or the
neutral safety switch [mostly because powering the coil from the battery didnt
do anything].

i have a long and strong background in bikes for many years and cant for the
life of me figure this out.
has anyone experienced this problem before and can help me figure out what it
is?
i gave up driving cars a decade ago so this is it for transportaion for me...so
any help would be greatly appreciated
