I've changed a number of them, and never used a knife. And don't know if that would even work to cut the wire bans down along the rim. I have found the bead can be broke easy enough with my 200 lbs on top of a plank to the rim. (However since I changed my own, I never put a sealant in the tire. That may be more difficult.) The thing to be really careful about is the rim itself that you do not damage it. The secret to stretching it over the rim when taking the back side off, is to get the tire in the center of the rim, where there is more room for it to slip over. Also make sure you put the new one on in the right direction use soapy water for lubricant. Ron
