I still need to buy carb cleaner and kerosene (yes, fuel shut-off has 
screws -  so I will dismantle).

I was going to buy them this morning, but we had about 5" of snow last 
night and I don't see any urgent need to drive to a crowed store parking 
lot on a Sunday; will wait till roads and traffic are not so bad (I don't 
mind the drive - toyota 4x4 pu - just don't like being on the road with a 
bunch yahoos).  

How about soaking rubber in warm water and dish soap; gentle wash?  Rinsing 
thoroughly.
