I beat on the thing every which way with a punch, a large punch, and had my mechanic weld a nut to it and she wouldn't spin out. That actually ended up snapping the nut. It's not flush with the head but maybe a an 8th - quarter inch is protruding from the head. I tried hammering a socket onto it a while back and it wouldn't budge. I'm really not sure why it stuck in there so good. It really gets me goin when I think about it. Small things tend to upset me a lot more than "big" stuff. Anyway, I got a set of drill bits and bought a 8mm tap with an "H" bit that's made a hair smaller than 8mm. Hopefully I can work my way up to the H bit leaving only the threads and can pick them out or maybe I'll get lucky and the stud will collapse. I've been thinking, could I get a 6mm tap and drill a 6mm hole into the seized stud? And just use a 6-6mm straight bolt as my anchor for the flange?
