Greetings. I started trying out nisus email yesterday on OS 9.1 and have so far liked it -- particularly the bit about easily opening a message in Nisus. Unfortunately, I can't use Nisus to type e-mail messages in Japanese because doing so kills the Auto Correct function (but that's another story).
There should be no conflict with Auto Correct/Auto Expansion when typing in Japanese. Unless perhaps you are entering Japanese using Roman characters, and certain Roman character combinations are triggering your abbreviations. Is that the problem?

First question: There doesn't seem to be anyway to read the Next message without closing the one being currently read and opening the next message. Am I overlooking something, or is this, in fact, not possible?
There should be no problem. Just click on the message you want to open. It shouldn't matter if other message are also open.

2nd question: Am I overlooking the mechanism for opening an attachment from within NE? I know how to navigate to the Received Attachments folder and open them there, but being able to do so from within NE would be nice.
No, you are not overlooking anything, as far as I know. Attachments are routed to a folder in the NE folder, where you can find them. If that is an inconvenient place, you can put an alias of that folder anywhere you like (on the desktop, for instance).
