But with work piled up as
high as the snowdrifts outside, I'm not up to it now.
And I thought you were in the Tokyo area for some reason, or has Tokyo had that rare snowfall?
No, I live out in the sticks.

I wonder if you are not keeping your scripts separate. If you type
English using a Japanese font (i.e., typing English in Japanese
script), that will certainly confuse auto-expand. I've seen that
happen. Good multi-lingual practice in Nisus Writer requires that we
always type in the script of the language we're entering.
I assume I am keeping the scripts straight: the hinomaru is in the menu bar when typing Japanese and the stars and stripes are there when typing English.

Are you using the Japanese OS or the US version with language kits? I'm not sure if Mercury is still localizing Nisus, but if it is, are you using the "localized" version or the US version?

The behavior I describe occurs with US 9.1 (and 9.02) with language kits installed, as well as in the Classic environment under OSX.
Actually I am working in OS X, with the US version of NW running in Classic.

If you're keeping your scripts straight and using kana input for Japanese, then I can't imagine why auto-expand would act up. But if you type one-byte numerals from the keypad in Japanese, and that same numeral combination is an auto-expand abbreviation, I can imagine that would trigger the expansion. I think you had an example of that. "12"? Something like that.
