Dave:

Thanks for clarifying the situation. I had been confused by Jerzy's remarks (below) particularly the paragraph beginning:
"After the final release of this version [i.e., the Express version] we will be adding features ... "

According to your comments, Nisus Express is "feature complete" for the initial release. Is there any chance that there will be a Nisus Express 2.0 with additional features?

I was speaking with someone the other day who was very upset with MS Word (a Windows version) because it was really too rich for his palate. It was much too complicated. We both decided that it would be nice for software to come with a complexity knob (probably should be an analog device) that you could turn to dial in functionality when it was needed. Many people would leave it at 1 but a few people could actually use it at 10.

I hope that Nisus Writer Express is designed to span knob positions 1 - 4 so that even version 5.0 is pretty lean. The full Nisus Writer could then go from 3 to 10 and keep the NW Express market intact.

There seems to be a bit of confusion here, so let me try to clear this up
a bit.

There are some people that have the idea that Nisus Writer Express is
supposed to be a replacement of Classic Nisus Writer. It was never
designed to be that: It is all new, and it is designed to be an
easy to use word processor (not a text editor or a Word killer)
that anyone can use.

Another misunderstanding is that we will be adding more features to
Express before it goes into general release. That is not the case. At
this point, it is feature complete for the initial release.

Jerzy sent this to the Dartmouth and Interactive lists when we
released the Express beta:

"Dear Friends of Nisus,

...

This first version, the Express version, is being released without
many of the features, present in Nisus Writer 6.5 because of popular
demand that something be released quickly.

After final release of this version, we will be adding features
frequently to satisfy your demands, but for now we must ask you to
focus on helping us make this foundation version the best possible
product. After that, we will be asking for your suggestions on
further features and improvements.
