Briefly glancing through it, it seems that it is a fairly balanced description of the Ainu. It does not go back beyond 13th century. In fact, it does not describe any annihilation attempt by the Japanese. (I would not use the word Yamato, as by 13th century, Japan was very much civilized and had a welll established form of government.)
