Title: Untitled Document

New York State expects ask a few questions beyond the minimum.  Questions were added to accommodate the different experiences that youth have as they leave high school and to provide information to statewide and local improvement activities.

The question” School records indicate you left high school with an IEP diploma or dropped out. Do you go to high school now? (yes or no)” is the first one that former students who still are eligible to attend school , such as those who dropped out, will be asked.  If “yes” there are two follow up questions.

Former students whose records indicate that they dropped out will be asked two additional questions.

Q4.  What is the main reason you left school without graduating?

Q5.  What might have helped you stay in school?

Former students whose report that they have not worked since high school will be asked “Q14 You said that you have not worked in a job since high school. Why not?”

Former students whose report that they have not participated in postsecondary education will be asked “Q21 Why haven’t you enrolled in postsecondary education since high school? “

Several questions will ask about awareness of and access to Adult Services such as Vocational Rehabilitation, Independent Living Center services, and Social Security.

Subject: [NPSO]: What data do you plan to collect?

A question has been posed to us about how many states are collecting data on independent living, social engagement or other questions beyond the reporting requirements.  We know that  you all have developed or are in the process of developing your follow-up survey questions for your state data collection systems.

Please reply to let us (and others)  if you are planning to include "more than" the minimal required questions about employment and education.  Thanks.
