Unfortunately I don't have the luxury of choosing to be on call. I can say this though. If I had the choice I wouldn't want it at all no matter how much extra they pay me. Being on 24/7 stinks big time, but it is part of my job. The part that I like the least. If you have the choice to get compensated for it, just make it worth your while. I get calls from people that their damn mouse isn't working at 10:00 PM. Of course we are trying to educated people to only call in emergencies, but to every end user, everything is an emergency.
