Four of us rotate weekends (Friday 6 PM - Mon 6 AM) and one day a week from 6-10. $2 per hour of on call plus a minimum 1 hour of pay if we get called in. Those times are our "get paid" times, however, I have my pager with me almost all the time. Just because I'm not on call when they page me, it doesn't mean I can completely ignore it.
A buddy of mine who works for EMC (actually worked for Data General which was bought out by EMC) survived the latest layoffs. But, one of the other support engineers didn't, so now Larry's on call 24x7x365 with a 2 hour lead. He gets pretty good pay for being on call but I wouldn't want it.
