Whoa there. This doesn't sound like it has anything to do with
compatws.inf, which affects Group Policy security settings. First, how did
you create the msi package? Did you use the Custom Installation Wizard for
Office or some other 3rd party .msi creation tool? If you used something
else, I would highly recommend using the Custom Installation Wizard. When
you created the package, did you tell it to install everything to the local
disk or did you do a standard install? You don't assign packages through
RIS, you assign them through Group Policy. Unless you are talking about
having created a RIS image that included an install of Office 97. And are
you assigning them to the computer or to the user in Group Policy (if indeed
that is what you are using)? Provide answers to these questions, and we
will be much closer to helping you figure out what is wrong.

Thanks,

Thanks Malcom,

I tried and it works however the problem we are having is as follows:

1: we installed OFFICE 97 by creating a MSI package
2: we assigned the package through the RIS ( remote installation services)
3 : the package get installed, however everytime we log on, Windows
installer is
rerun to install the office pakage
4: We had this behaviour on windows 2000/pro but was resolved installig
compatws.inf
5: we cannot resolve on Windows/XP

any idea

Thanks for you help
