That is service pack 2. Which should be fine, but if you want you can install service pack 3. However I dont beleive installing SP3 will help you.
I aggree with you, I think its safe to assume this promblem is specific this laptop. My hunch is that there is a service that starts automaticaly that is the culprit. To eliminate this as a possible cause. Perform the following steps. 1. Log into you pc (the pc that works fine) and write down all the services that are running on your system. You can best view the running services by typing 'net start' at the command prompt. 2. Log into this laptop that is not working as expected. Right click on the 'my Computer' icon and choose manage. goto the services section. Look in the status feild. STOP all services that are not in the list you generated from step 1. 3.
