Could be DNS-related . . . Have you checked for any manual DNS entries on
the system that could be messing things up?  Again, look in the event viewer
for errors or entries that might help you to determine the cause of the
problems.  My bets right now are on DNS.

i logged on with my profile and the same thing  - it takes forever and on my
pc it's very quick......so i think it's his laptop

Try having this user log into the network using a different system that
operates fine. This will tell you whether you are dealing with a problem
that confined to the laptop or tied to this particular user's network
account settings.

What happens when you log into the laptop with a different account that
works fine on other systems?

What service pack are you running on this laptop?

i don't know if this is actually profile related because even before i type
in the user name it takes ages to connect to the network etc..... aaargh

Unfortunately there are 1000's of possible causes, and I am as uneducated as
you in the network dept
