The client's desired plan is not going to meet their expectations. They're aiming for a full backup, and will utterly fail to even get a partial one.
I cannot add anything extra to what has already been suggested. Perhaps the sheer volume of "don't try this at home" will be helpful in getting him to go in another direction.
