I never meant it to imply that Microsoft hasn't used under-handed
install methods in the past, simply that they haven't with this
particular product...Yet. :-)

I agree with your basic point, but MS is not totally white hatted in
this regard. IE7 being released multiple times as a critical security
update comes to mind.
