John,

Training does not mean going to a week-long class. Training can mean buying a
book (real cheap on half.com) and working thru the book. What about your
library? If they don't have the book you need, there is always the free
inter-library loan program. Or, how about writing an author of a book for a
subject you need training in and finding out if there is a way to get a free
copy of greatly reduced priced copy of the book? I know some book authors who
also have software for sale, that would love to have some hard-core beta
testers for their software and materials. You would give up a good chunk of
free time but you would help improve a product, learn some stuff in the process
and get a free or cheap copy of the book. A Win-Win situation. Plus, you
would now have a new professional contact. You may not have disposable money
right now but we all have the same amount of time.
