My colleague tried copying the OST file but this did not work, I will try this again. We would prefer not to copy user profiles. (some users were local admin and have profiles filled with crap)
We can expect zero cooperation from HQ. Some time ago we were forced to migrate our local Exchange to the Exchange in HQ, we were offered 2 migration paths; start with an empty mailbox or use an expensive mail migration tool from Quest, for which local management did not want to pay. We asked for a golden mean; export to PST and let them exmerge it into the new Exchange, they agreed to this after lots of discussion. When we sent the disk with all PSTs to them, it lay there for 3 days before they started importing (they could not find anything to connect it to). Another site opted for the Quest tool, this went so wrong that they ended up syncing all mail into the OST again. Our sites are located in Belgium and the Netherlands and HQ is in Germany. It would be a logistical nightmare to organize this. And after you read the two previous paragraphes you would probably not even think about this J. Also I think they would not do this. SO, since the PCs are new, the profile wont match the OST. Most likely that wont work. You might try migrating their entire user profile from their old computers to new. Another option would be to build their computers at HQ and setup their profiles there so the mail can sync on the local LAN then ship them. At that point all the user would have to do is sync new mail since they were shipped. Currently we are using Outlook 2003 with OST files, and we are going to migrate to Outlook 2007. We are going to do an installation from scratch (new PCs). The problem we have is, that our Exchange servers (located at head quarters) are connnected through slow 2mbit WANs. So even if we only do a couple of migrations a day, per site, this would easily saturate the WAN connections. Is it possible to reuse the Outlook 2003 OST file in Outlook 2007, without performing an in-place upgrade ?
