I am trying very hard to move our help desk to sharepoint. That template
impresses me as a place to start but it has a long way to go before it is an
actual solution for a larger multi person IT Department. Coras Works has a
really nice out of the box sharepoint help desk system, but I think it is big
bucks. I am in the process of contacting them.

That template or one like it has been there for years. I know when I first
looked at WSS 2 and then 3 it was there but whether it was 3 or 2 I can't now
remember.

Some time back, I had heard that MS was working on a full-fledged helpdesk
product. I was hoping to see that developed, since we're a Microsoft shop and
their ed pricing is so cheap. But I haven't heard anything on it in a while, so
maybe it went away or turned into the template.

Just a followup, MSFT released a free call center and help desk template for
WSS/MOSS. We don't use it, but it wouldn't be a bad way to get a free
ticketing and knowledge base system setup.

Google "fab 40 templates"
