To the OP, if you are just deploying IE 8, I would highly recommend the IEAK Kit or use a Master INS file on a network share.
IE comes with a bunch of weird defaults, welcome prompts, questions to answer before you can finally use the browser etc... Use the IEAK to get rid of the nags, set the default home pages, clean up the menu layout, set search engines, security settings, etc... Makes for a much smoother transition and far less calls to the help desk. There are a few ways to utilize it, and even push it out ontop of existing IE deployments. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc985332.aspx Sam From: Andrew S. One option is to handle this via Logon Script -- check the value of the homepage and ensure that at least one of them is the setting you want, if not, add it. You can use GPP to set a home page AND multiple other home tabs. The user will also have access to change this (As GPP is a "preference" not an enforcement). The problem is that when the policy next applies it will go back to what was specified in the policy. User Config -> Control Panel -> Internet Settings, then create an IE7 or IE8 policy . GPP is much more flexible with who it is applied to though so you may be able to create a policy for each of the noisiest users. I know how to do this, but... does anyone know what combination of options I need in order to default our home page so it cannot be changed, but, allow users to add their own additional home tabs? Thanks. ________________________________ MIRA Ltd Watling Street, Nuneaton, Warwickshire, CV10 0TU, England Registered in England and Wales No. 402570 VAT Registration GB 114 5409 96 ~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Business/VIPRE-Enterprise/> ~ --- To manage subscriptions click here: http://lyris.sunbelt-software.com/read/my_forums/ or send an email to [email protected] with the body: unsubscribe ntsysadmin ~ Finally, powerful endpoint security that ISN'T a resource hog! ~ ~ <http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Business/VIPRE-Enterprise/> ~ --- To manage subscriptions click here: http://lyris.sunbelt-software.com/read/my_forums/ or send an email to [email protected] with the body: unsubscribe ntsysadmin
