Hi Daniel,
I have been using Jeff Carr's version until now since I have not
experienced any problems on my PB1400 until now despite that the kernel
argument line gets corrupted when exceeding a certain length.
Where do you know from that Jeff Carr's version doesn't work with PDM
machines? The project site says that it was built especially to support
the PDM AV video card.
Neither MacOS nor MacOSX has any problems with the ISOs produced by
Discribe.
I'm not sure whether Discribe is responsible for the partition table as
I have created the latest ISOs using MacOS X 10.3 Disc Utility. Disc
Utility seems to be doing some special optimizations when creating an
ISO file.
I'm using Discribe because it is (maybe) the only CD mastering software
that recognizes the PB1400 media bay. Maybe Toast could be patched to
scan the media bay IDE interface...
I've read somewhere in the web that there is one other CD mastering
software that is told to be working with the PB1400 media bay but only
Discribe is available as a trial version. And the trial period can be
extended by just deleting a hidden file in the System Folder.
Since it is much easier for me to create the miboot CDs with Discribe
on the PB1400 than doing it on another machine I will continue using
it.
What do you mean with "such a problematic version of Discribe"? It is
the latest and only available version for the classic MacOS as far as I
know.
I will use your version of miboot in the future. Thanks for it.

I just downloaded all three ISOs on Tobias's webspace to examine them.
All
three use the Jeff Carr version of miBoot and not mine, which means
that
they will not work on your PDM machine. For details, see my earlier
post:

I have temporarily posted my version to:
http://homepage.mac.com/danielg4/System.bin
In addition, the files have corrupt partition tables, revealing a bug
in
the mastering software. For that reason, one should avoid mastering HFS
CDs with such a problematic version of Discribe.

Please report your experiences with this kernel!
Dear Tobias,
I'm not sure if this depends on your kernel or miboot itself:
I have got an Powermac 6100/66 with no extras yet.
I would like to install Debian Sarge on this machine, but I haven't
found a way to boot into the kernel and the necessary installer.
I tried different options (for videomodes, ram etc.) but after
booting the video freezes (just ugly black patterns on white
background)
Since i did an sucessfull installation of YDL 2.x and 3.0 a few time
ago, i remember only MkLinux Booter as a working possibility.
But therefore its necessary to have an combined image (kernel
+installer).
Do you or does somebody else on this list know a sucessfull way of
installing sarge on PM 6100? Or does somebody can discribe the way to
get such an MkLinux-Install-Image?
Thanks,
Claus Niemeier
