Dear Daniel, Tobias and Florian,
thanks for your input. Installing sarge still doesn't work, but
perhaps I'm (or we) are on the way due to some testing i did:
http://homepage.mac.com/danielg4/System.bin
@Daniel:
I don't know exactly why, but your system file seems to load the
kernel in a better way. With the system-file of Tobias miboot-images
the booting crashes as described before. With your system-file the
kernel loads to its startscreen but then freezes:
---
Welcome to Linux, kernel 2..4.27
linked at :0xc0200000
... etc ...
IBAT3L :0x00000000
---
After that last "IBAT3L..."-line it freezes.
BTW: Does somebody know, what the kernel does at this moment?
I tried different options (video, nubus_simm etc.) with no difference
@Tobias:
As far as I understand the project page you will have to tell the
kernel the option "video=ariel2fb" if you use the builtin video
system, or "video=nbpmacfb" if you use a card that is plugged into
an expansion slot.
But you already know this, don't you?
Yes, first I tried the options which seems to succeed in theory but
failed in reality (see above). I even tried different things as
different boot disks (hd and os9-ramdisk), different pairs of ram (2x
32 MB and 2x 64 MB), since YDL 3.0 got Problems recognizing the last
pair of two 64 MB-Modules.

I tested this Iso.
"memory command line reporter" Mach Kernel available directly from
nubus-pmac.sf.net .
I wasn't able to get any information on the ram input. I tried this
once for YDL 3.0 since no nubus_simm-option succeed for my two 64 MB
Modules (they are working perfectly under Mac OS but the kernel under
YDL 3.0 seemed to be addressing somewhere in nirwana and then
crashing). On my PM6100 I just got NO output after the startmessage
of MCL-Reporter instead of the configuration.
Note that there most probably weren't any changes to the PowerMac
or Performa support since you installed YDL.
If the miboot ISO doesn't work I can send you a Mach Kernel image
with Sarge installer
Perhaps this is a good idea. With YDL this worked fine.
But also I'm interested in understanding the problem.
regards,
Claus
