Basically, if everything is rendered correctly what you should do is: 1. Make sure the Reads that are supposed to be Linear are indeed Linear. 2. Make sure that your Viewer is set to sRGB (I believe that's probably what you mean by gamma 2.2).
Your images should come out right. If they don't then you probably never received them as Linear as promised (a usual misconception with many 3D artists due to the way things are labelled in Maya and Max). If that's the case then set the Reads to sRGB as well, or tell your 3D artists they are wrong (never a fun thing to do).
