well, as long as you stay inside AVID i guess DNxHD is solid and convenient, but i found that as soon as i need to get it to another app i hit similar problems...

the other thing that bugs me about DNxHD is its fixed bitrate (which wastes a lot of space in some cases) and that it only works on standard video sizes.

just repeated the greenscreen test with different footage (5K epic greenscreen).. resized to HD and rendered to both prores and dnxhd, then pulled a key with keylight on those files. sure enough the same DNxHD block artifacts reappeared.

ps: did some more digging and the whole thing is more crooked then expected. when decoding prores422 files in nuke, it shows much more chroma blocking then if decoding in AE or shake. DNxHD files look smoother in nuke (but not in AE or shake), but have other weird artifacts in all three apps... prores444 files are flawless. so it seems that the prores422 decoding in nuke 6.3 is messed up (encoding works fine, the "gamma shift", which is more a color space shift, also happens upon decoding, but not on encoding). if anybody wants to do a test in nuke7, or just wants to have a look, here are some of the test files (the still is frame 7):
