Hmm.  I absolutely agree that the default-domain property should be
mandatory if NIS and/or LDAP is configured manually (thanks for the
clarification on that).

I'm not convinced, though, that it should be forbidden if NIS and/or
LDAP is/are not in use.  The version of sendmail delivered with
solaris (according to the domainname(1M) man page) may also expect
to find a domain value using the domainname(1M) command; so I can
imagine a case where a user might want sendmail to do that, but not
have NIS or LDAP running.  This seems like a reasonable config; I
don't think we should prevent someone from doing it.
