Hi all,

I took on what has turned into a somewhat frustrating job of helping a client migrate a bunch of sites from a 1&1 managed server to a simple business shared hosting package (also with 1&1). I've never had anything to do with 1&1 before and yes, they are definitely living up to a reputation of being rather frustrating to deal with. Each email has someone different replying and inevitably at some point one of the new additions to the conversation will reply without reference to the previous conversation where I'd outline the context of the problem. Grrh.

Anyway, my specific question relates to the following:
We suggest that you change your DNS settings of your external domains first
before cancelling your contract because you will not be able to change the DNS
settings once your contract is cancelled with us. To cancel, please see link
below:
http://faq.1and1.com/package/cancel/1.html
I don't quite grasp how this would be possible. How could changing a hosting provider or in this instance even just changing to a different server space with the same host, prevent me from repointing the dns settings with the respective registrars afterwards? I am awaiting login details for the respective registrars from my client for 5 of the domains. But, wanting to cancel the current hosting contract to prevent another month getting charged.

Cheers
Matt
