FWIW, looking at the web development courses at Waikato University, students would be better off never touching the course before trying to do any webdev. I'm sure you can all imagine the kind of outdated 90's things they teach, as well as PHP that would be compromised immediately on launch (maybe Wheedle got their devs from Waikato?). I can't help but think it's the same in most institutions.
