I was a teacher at Natcoll for a couple of a years, and I can tell you in all honesty that Steve (the national course coordinator) works very hard to try and keep everything as current and real world as possible.
I would still recommend Natcoll as a place for students to learn. If you go in with the right attitude and you put in the work you will come out with some amazing skills (I'm still incredibly proud of a decent number of my past students), but at the same time, if you go in with a poor attitude, you will still pass, but you will come out like every other Zergling. The trouble for us in the industry is that Web Dev is the new "flavour of the month", and you have 60+ new graduates every year from Natcoll Auckland alone, and out of those 60, only a quarter will have been people who had a genuine interest in the industry and who have come away with the skills needed to progress. I hate to make that comparison of "pre and post Angry Birds geeks", but it always seems to pop back into my head... "Geek" is the new cool thing, and unfortunately it's now hard to tell who actually has that mindset, and who was just jumping on a bandwagon. -- -- NZ PHP Users Group: http://groups.google.com/group/nzphpug To post, send email to [email protected] To unsubscribe, send email to [email protected] --- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "NZ PHP Users Group" group.
