I hate to hear that motorists will try to bully cyclists off the road for
whatever reason (usually because we have slowed them down for 30 seconds).
We as cyclists have to put up with a lot from the ugly, smelly car drivers.
They sometimes seem to have carte blanche to run us over - as in the
incident between a motorcyclist and bikers in the Gatineau Park.

Despite that, as Avery says, we need to be as considerate to others as we
would have them be to us (the Golden Rule). Like some other people I know,
I sometimes get discouraged by the behaviour of riders when I am in a large
group. I have seen times when a rider at the back of the group will say
"car back" and the group continues to ride filling up the whole road. We
need to at least appear to make room for other road users, even though it
might be impractical to accommodate everyone. So, I appeal to riders to try
to take up only half of a lane, if possible, when cars approach from behind.
The practice of waving cars around when it is SAFE to do so is a good public
relations effort. Motorists can't expect any more than that, however. We
must not accept dangerous behaviour aimed at us.
