A few comments regarding Tom Trottier's e-mail posting.

Couldn't agree more. In my opinion this is the single
most important issue on all of Ontario highways for cyclists.
Regardless of highway width, a cyclist will only be safe when
motorists begin to show courtesy and respect for the
two-wheeled traveller.
>Having a wider shoulder makes cyclists safer and motorists

Yes, but it's a poor substitute for a proper "share the road"
attitude.
>...maps specially for bicyclists.
Another nice idea. However, Ontario used to have excellent
county maps which delineated road size and surface - the major
facts required by a cyclist planning a journey. Since the
government got out of the map making business, the commercial
organizations which took over have produced good detailing but
left out the road surface data. I suggest you express your
concerns to them.
>Bicyclists.......usually have higher disposable incomes than

Surprising statement! Do you have data to back this up? And
even if so, is there any data to suggest a cycle tourist spends
more money in any given time frame than another type of tourist?
