At my request (as Secretary of ONW), PSIRA (the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority) are investigating both OAR and OCS (Observatory Community Services) to see if either body is registered with PSIRA. Registration is a legal requirement. I spoke to the inspector who is conducting the investigation this morning. He tells me that PSIRA have 'major issues' with OAR which have not yet been resolved, and that their investigation is ongoing. The owner of OAR is Barney Wedel, and he did register a security company with PSIRA in 2001, but that company was not called Observatory Armed Response. At this time OAR are not registered under that name with PSIRA, and would thus appear to be operating illegally. N.B. Registration with PSIRA is compusory; membership of SAIDSA is voluntary.
