I think you are getting confused between whether people should pick up their
dog's shit and whether they have a right to own them or walk them in
Observatory. I have dogs, the yard is big enough, I walk them in Newlands,
the Beach, the Soccer Fields, and when the fancy takes me, in my own
neighbourhood. The only obligations I have are to keep them on leashes and
pick up their shit and show general respect for my fellow residents. I also
pick up their shit in Newlands, the Soccer Fields and so on. I do not think
the question is whether people should or should not have dogs in
Observatory. I do and always have taken care of my dogs shit. It is common
decency to pick up your dog's shit. We all know that. Even if we are the
lesser mortals who like and own dogs. There are always inconsiderate people
in the world. Some, but not all, own dogs. Others shit on the pavements
themselves, throw their rubbish on the sidewalks, refuse to recycle, have
noisy parties, drive badly... . So, the consensus is PICK UP THE SHIT. Good
luck. Inconsiderate people seldom change...

Well said Markus! I agree, many dog owners in Obs seem too lazy to
walk their dogs any further than the nearest neighbour's entrance! I
spend my life picking up peoples dog shit in front of my gatage.
What's worng with a walk at the river for those with out cars and
Newlands forest for those with cars. And why so many dogs when most
gardens in Obs are the size of a tissue?

Dear dog owners (who DON'T pick up your shit)...
Would it be possible to perhaps carry a plastic bag or two with you and
pick up your dogs' shit!?!?!?!? I don't own a dog and I don't appreciate
having dog shit in front of my gate. It doesn't smell good, it doesn't
look good and I find it terribly cheeky that dog owners can just turn a
blind eye to this. You chose to have a dog (or dogs)... take
responsibility please. I'm happy that you take your dog for a walk,
because the Obz gardens are not big, but please show a bit of
consideration to the other residence in the area and beef up in the
responsibility department...
AND saying something like: "Yeah, but so-and-so doesn't do it, so I'm not
going to do it either..." is a LAME excuse!!!
Please, just pick up the shit! And keep our streets safe to walk in... no
one enjoys dodging land mines when walking the streets.
Kind regards,
