Hi all just come back from site we have a cable fault, the City Of Cape Town is
in the process of getting a generator to the problem area, to hook up as a
temporary measure until the cable fault is cleared.
The process to hook up the temporary generator should be up and running in the
next 2 hours.
I am in constant contact with the relevant officials to ensure that they speed
up, to get the community on line.
I will continue to apply pressure from my side.
Thanks.

Yours In Community Service.

Subject: RE: [obsnw] Constant Power Outages - again last night

Hi All,

Just spoke with the City regarding the power outage in Observatory. The power
has still not been connected. Evidently the problem is really bad and they tell
me they will be hooking up generators to restore power. Anybody reading this
please let us working class know when the power is restored in the Obs area.
Ancois, thanks for your help.

Doug.

Hi Piet,

It is now 13 hours since the power went out. I have called the City Electricity
department twice, the last call was five minutes ago. They tell me that one of
the electrical boxes last night exploded causing cables to burn, thus knocking
out the power, they tell me they are presently fixing the problem - replacing
the cables - yet will not be able to give me a time when the power will be
restored.

When you called did you get a reference number?

I will keep calling on an hourly basis, hopefully they will have good news.

Hope that they will fix this once and for all.

Doug.

Hi Doug,

I'm also gatvol. I live on Arnold street between Scott and Bishop, also had no
power from somewhere between 11 and midnight. I have a baby in the house, so to
wake up in the middle of the night not being able to use the microwave to heat
milk is quite a pain in the ass, and also a security issue, and the house gets
too cold.

I phone city council, they had the same reply as the last two times. They
actually don't know what the problem is, it only happens when it rains. They
start looking for the problem, and it always ends up drying before they find
it, then everything works again, til the next big rain.

I think its out of their control, but it sure would be nice if they can fix it.
Let's just hold thumbs.

Piet

I am asking myself the question

WHY SO MANY POWER OUTAGES

We in Observatory between Rochester Road, to Milton Road and from the lower
main road to the top main road seem to suffer this inconvenience every time we
have a little bit of rain. The area could be bigger but this is what I have
ascertained.

This is the third power outage in this area in the last couple of months.

The latest one was still on the go from midnight last night to when I left home
for work this morning

What is the problem, and why can it not be fixed?

I would be happy if someone could supply an answer, I have mailed the city, yet
all the say they know about it....then nothing further.

Doug
