Okay, lets say that over time (maybe another 20 years in the future) the eskimos start to emmigrate to France from their overcrowded cities in the North Pole. Eventually, there are as many eskimos in France as descendants of our bold conquerer. But they can't say the letter r correctly. So half the population now calls Paris Palis. Not only are they mispronouncing the name of the ancient city of Paris, but they also mispronounce the name of the post conquest metropolis of Auckland. Let's pretend they call it Ackrand, because I don't know how eskimos mispronounce Auckland. Maybe you just say "So Auckland is now Ackrand" and be done with it. Or maybe you say "Well, I suppose that the descendants of our bold conquerer are still around, and you know, it kind of is a part of their cultural heritage of brutal conquest, they might be a minority now, but it would be a mark of cultural respect to at least try and pronounce the name of Auckland the way it was intended". Or maybe the descendants don't care anyway. And the current locals simply can't even pronounce the name of their own town right :-) That's like going to live in Paris then saying that seeing as you are now a local, and you say it Paris then that is correct pronunciation, never mind that the French say it Paree.
