This has been true until fairly recently. Now there is NX (http://www.nomachine.com/). This is a commercial product. I have used the NoMachine NX client in conjunction with the FreeNX server (http://freenx.berlios.de/) and I can tell you that as a user and administrator of a Citrix farm, NX is approaching the level of Citrix and possibly exceeds the capabilities of Terminal Services / RDP.
