In my experience (18+ years) 'not getting paid' means you need to work on the relationship with the client (if you want to keep them as a client), forget baycorp et al, these are 'end games' which seldom work (it is easy to register a dispute and contest liability and it is unlikely in a small project you have the requisite documentation that is undisputeable), Talk to your client and find out what they are not happy about. Also make sure the client is aware that in paying you they are investing in your ongoing goodwill and talent more than they are buying a piece of software. It always amazes me that some clients will compare a bespoke piece of software to M$ Office! you simply point out the numbers!

Some strategy

1/ Suggest you come over and sit with with them and document the outstanding issues, you then 'fix' the issues and it all goes away. You sometime turn up usage and training issues during these sessions (ie there is no problem)

2/ Offer to give them something - "I'm happy to work on this at no cost to get this resolved", don't be afraid that they will take adavantage of this, you can always "guilt them" by setting up in their office and doing all this "free" work for them in their face, which leads to point 3

3/ Be seen to do stuff, "out of sight, out of mind applies", If you set up in their office a) they get to see you doing stuff for them and b) it can accelerate issue resolution, "try this"

If they just don't want to pay then remind them how much they have invested in the project so far, This doesn't always work I lost a long standing client last year, mainly because his new accountant wanted another product, her justification was we have spent 40K when they quoted 20K (reason being she sabotaged the project!) and then they signed up for a 100K replacement

Hi all

Has anybody been in the same situation as me, dealing with a client that
doesn't want to pay? Can anybody give me any pointers what to do in a
situation like this and what not to do?
