There is an Advocacy Community Group. It's currently hidden and will be
opened shortly. It's being formed from the merger of the Marketing
Community, the Immigrants, Community, and the User Group Community.
Since the merger of the three communities will take some time, we've
decided to open in stages and we started with this list -- which has
about 350 people from Marketing, Immigrants, and User Groups. Below are
the related discussion threads:

If you don't feel that the Advocacy CG is a real community until it's
actually open, that's fine. Please feel free to take your discussion to
opensolaris-discuss. Once it's there, we'll suggest that you take it to
the Marketing Community, which is open. But the opensolaris-mktg list no
longer exists and has been merged into advocacy-discuss. Either way,
it's not an OGB issue.

Actually, we do need text. And ideally, the text should come first. You
can't separate text from graphics, or at the very least they go
together. A graphic expresses the essence of an idea articulated in
text, and the text supports the graphic. I offered some text suggestions
earlier in this thread, and I'd welcome your feedback. Also, I've worked
with many graphic designers, illustrators, photographers, and editors
over the years, and I've never met one who would produce a piece of art
without knowing the issue and seeing it written in text or at least
talking to the writer.

Based on what message? And do you have consensus for those ideas? And is
any of this expressed in text? What is the culture of the community you
are trying to capture in a piece of art (logo or mascot)? Is it the user
community? The kernel community? A partner community? A customer
community? Have you considered all the legal and trademark issues? The
cultural issues?

Are you talking about engaging a professional illustrator or designer?
The OGB has no budget to do this, and the pros are not cheap. Sun would
have to pay for this work, and that would have to come from OpenSolaris
Engineering or OpenSolaris Marketing. Most likely from marketing. And
you will find those people right here on this list. Also, if you want to
hire a pro, what would your instructions to the illustrator be? Do you
have some illustrators in mind that we could contact? Can you post some
links to their work?

I don't support the creation of a deadline when we haven't even had the
conversation, and no one can even express the message we are trying to
illustrate.

Of course, artists and illustrators don't churn stuff out. And we are
not trying to find a final solution in email. We are simply exploring
the issue in an open discussion. That's absolutely realistic and it's
absolutely the correct thing to do.

Pick one. A symbol? A character? Or whatever? And what two different
scenarios and what two themes are you talking about? And just two? What
about the drafts before final production?
