Well the being like D&D [or actually Paladium] was what made the Robotech RPG so unplayable. If you start modifying the system to cope then all you may be retaining are a few core concepts and people are going to have most off the work to adapt to the new d20 game that they would have to a new game with out the inherant separation there is in the knowledge that it is a new game.
