Looking at the SRD and thinking of all the tenacled
creatures with mouths in the real-world, I mainly
think of squids, octopi and jellyfish. And I'm not
certain of jellyfish. "A mind flayer lashes its
enemies with the tentacles ringing its mouth."

I also see in the SRD that the Mind Flayer has a
decent movement rate (30 ft.) and >could< be humanoid
in appearence of frame, humans, elves and half-orcs
have decent movement rates (30 ft.) as well... but it
doesn't mean that the Flayer can't have extra
appendages. "An aberration has a bizarre anatomy,
strange abilities, an alien mindset, or any
combination of the three."

I also see that the description, from the SRD, of the
Mind Flayer doesn't say that >it isn't< a humanoid,
squid-headed creature. "Mind flayers speak Undercommon
but prefer to communicate telepathically."

So if I come up with an adventure with Mind Flayers,
call them Mind Flayers, infer their mental greatness
and say they have slaves, eat brains and are
squid-headed, I think I can be in compliance with the
license.

Now, if I said the same thing and called my mind
flayers "Illithids" I'd be in trouble.
