Actually, I think this would work much better than using the "Mind Flayer" specs in the SRD. It doesn't help with other creatures that are private WotC creations though. It also leads to an interesting question: What if I read the description for a Mind Flayer and decide it sounds JUST LIKE something from an H. P. Lovecraft novel (based on the tentacles around the mouth, high intelligence, and horrific mind-blowing mental powers). I certainly wouldn't be the first one to think it.
