If you did that, I *believe* you could do a lot more than that. Since the IDEA of a purple-skinned subterranean creature with an octopus shaped head, that lives as a hive, keeps slaves, eats brains, uses mental powers, and is ruled by a penultimately powerful living brain floating in an underground pool cannot be copyrighted. As long as you do not call it an illithid, or associate it in any way with the "Mind Flayer" released under the SRD. Am I correct? Or would you be on shaky ground.
