Funny you mention this, it is almost exactly what the Action! sytem is doing
(www.action-system.com for those curious..) The game, in PDF format, is
available for $5 and is a generic game rule core book.

I would imagine this is the ballpark that most people planning on releasing
Action! stuff will target for MSRP.

I am sure there will be a glass ceiling of some sort hit by expansions,
source books, etc on pricing, however in theory, yes.. the price of decent
add on material would continue to increase as long as value was still
percieved. The price of the core book could also begin to creep up as
pricing of supplimental material begins to level out.

IF you introduce a zero cost to get rules, and then have commercially*
available material of decent quality available, the theory holds that you
should see a growth in the market.

*commercially available material is noted to be product which you can find
in a physical storefront or from a recognized electronic distribution
source. Fan sites, and the other 'free' sources generally, imho, do not make
or break a product. They are nice for niche groups/ideas/markets, but until
most people see physical inventory somewhere, they may discount the value of
a 'free' or inexpensive game system as a viable product. I know from my own
experience that I consider most of the 'free' material from fan sites, etc
on the web to be 'fanboy' trash, and generally avoid it.. Of course, I could
be the odd one.
