Personally, I was under the opinion (and you can take that for what its
worth) that WotC didn't have to follow the rules of convention for the OGL?

In general, this is backwards. When reusing OGC from another source, you 
MUST update Section 15 in your product to reflect that. And you usually MAY 
NOT include any sort of inline credits (because you are restricted from 
using other people's trademarks without explicit, separate permission -- 
and most publishers claim their product names as trademarks, and as Product 
Identity).
