I believe the interface I proposed is consistent between core and EXT functions.

It is however different then the Win32 method as you correctly point out.

To what extent is the goal source code compatibility with the Microsoft ICD
interface? I'll admit I did not understand this to be a primary requirement.
However, I would imagine the differences could be hidden in macros.
