Ben & I can edit in the /dev tree and I just confirmed that I can create a
new page ( http://openlibrary.org/dev/test) so setting up something similar
for the user community would seem to be technically feasible. It would
require pre-approval of accounts for editing, but other than that, it
should be pretty straightforward. The main questions would be whether it
should use the current group (librarians, I think) or a new one and what
the root of the tree should be.

If hosting on OpenLibrary isn't feasible, my second choice would probably
be to flip the bit to turn on the Github wiki at
https://github.com/internetarchive/openlibrary/wiki You can see what it
would look like at my fork here:
https://github.com/tfmorris/openlibrary/wiki This would have the advantage
of being fully distributed with the ability to fork & merge as well as
redundancy and distributed control by virtue of the multiple copies.

My third choice would be the free tier of one of the hosting services here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_wiki_hosting_services

While John Rigdon's offer is very generous, I agree with Karen that this
shouldn't be controlled by an individual (not saying anything about John's
intentions!).
