Hi Maik,
though I haven't a very strong opinion on this matter, "free" vs
"usable" when "usable" implies non free softwares, I think this
question should be seriously discussed between us. I mean, we should
have a clear public position on this point.
I think it has pros and cons: The advantage would be that it would
strengthen claims of "100% free software as in liberty not price" and it
would also differentiate us a lot. The drawbacks would be that we might
lose Nicco as our kernel expert (which I do not want) if he refuses to
do a Linux-libre kernel version. Maybe other members as well.
I must also say that in the old days when Mandriva Linux had been
published by Mandriva SA, I liked "Mandriva Linux Free" better than
"Mandriva One", the latter including things like Flash and Nvidia IIRC.
I know that both of them contained binary blobs in the kernel but I
definetely enjoyed "Mandriva Linux Free".
I am a bit unsure how the process is as I am not a member of council so
I would just like to have this considered as input in our going
discussions.
Have a good week-end,
Maik
