See there are more people interested in this idea...

1. I recall a parking ramp behind the St. James Hotel in Red Wing.
2. How detrimental is it to our downtown economy when citizens shop or
choose to receive other services elsewhere because they can't stand dealing
with the parking situation? Here's one example: I quit working downtown
almost two years ago. I can probably count on one hand the stops I've made
at Midtown Foods since then. I used to shop there 1-2 times per week!
3. Has there ever been an effort to research the idea of a small parking
structure suited to the size of our downtown? Or is this too hot a
controversy that nobody wants to touch it? I think that if some facts were
gathered and distributed, we could either move forward or put it to rest.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think I can say that even without research that there is an obvious need
to create a parking structure. And we have an incredible opportunity too.
Needs...
1. parking problem in & around WSU. Obvious :P
2. public love for our downtown district
3. talk about creating a "Winona County Government Campus"
4. the insane pick up in damand for such a thing when Alternate Side Parking
starts Nov. 1st!
5. the obvious need to have our roads plowed and cars off them.
Bennefits...
1. longterm revenue maker
2. increased downtown shopping
3. No more unsightly things such as people trying to park their cars on
their front lawn or between houses. (I'ld take a parking structure any day
over a junker in the next door lawn!)
4. oh, increased downtown shopping means even MORE tax revenue.
5. Better access to community resources!
What a better opportunity than to use space that no one lives in! I'm
talking about the Former Middle Schools. To me this would be a perfect
opportunity to solve parking problems created by students, to bolster our
downtown, increase longterm revenue and to fortify our community.
thats all for now...
