[Winona Online Democracy]
Hello Winona Online Democracy,
I wanted to write and second Jerome's comments.
As someone who has cleaned toilets, worked as a kind of custodian, and is
the son of a custodian and former farmer, I understand what you are saying.
I especially agree with the statement about the importance of their work
and how unfortunate it is that their pay is not in proportion to their true
social significance.
That does not have to be that way. All economics are human constructs.
There is nothing about our economics and accounting that is magical or
handed down from on high. In fact, the more you learn about economics and
accounting, the more you see how it's influenced by human biases,
philosophies, politics, and intangible things like trust and faith.
We can change how people are compensated for the value of their work if
enough of us believed it and decided to do something about it.
I have really enjoyed everyone's comments on this topic.
Craig Brooks, rather than continue with my long windedness and probably
repeat what has already been discussed in discussions last year, could you
please summarize the findings of the Youth Advisory Council on this topic?
Have a Great Weekend,
Dwayne Voegeli
