Bob,
I certainly believe your organization did the right thing. My son currently
holds the rank of Life Scout and hopes to earn the rank of Eagle. After the
Supreme Court's ruling last summer, we discussed the ruling and told him
that if he chose to quit we would understand. We believe that the Boy
Scouts is a great organization in many ways--except for this. My son's
troop leaders are terrific men, and I suspect no discrimination on their
part. My son opted to stay in the scouts for those reasons.
Like Scott, my husband and I will now likely support the United Way for
their principaled and ethical decision.
