[Winona Online Democracy]
Craig, thank you for your response. I did not see the 60 Minutes segment
regarding the BSA. I suppose that because the troop leaders of my son's
troop (#2) in no way resemble the hostile critics that have surfaced
locally due to this courageous decision, I feel comfortable with my son
remaining involved. He has gained leadership skills, physical skills, etc.
His troop leaders and Ed Thompson deserve our respect and support. This is
why I believe we can affect change internally. We must also not be afraid
to support our gay friends publically. I have known so many gay and lesbian
people since my college days who led exemplary lives: active in the
community, generous with their time and resources for others, incredible
humanitarians. I have tried to teach my son not to be afraid of people who
are "different"--whether that difference be race, nationality, sexual
preference, and, yes, even political. I think we all know--if we read the
newspapers--that sexual preditors can be found within all "preferences".I
have tried to teach him the warning signs of dangerous situations.
Did anyone happen to tape the 60 Minutes segment?
